Suffering from Automatonophobia?
TweetWhat is Automatonophobia?
Automatonophobia- Fear of ventriloquist's dummies, animatronic creatures, wax statues - anything that falsly represents a sentient being.
The food in these experiments was the conditioned stimulus (CS) while the metronome or bell was the unconditioned stimulus (DCS), with salivation becoming the conditioned response (CR) or conditioned reflex.
Similar conditioning experiments have been carried out with many other animals, establishing that it readily takes place and produces an automatic (Le. non-cognitive) response. By 1920, an attempt had been made to establish that conditioning also occurs in humans, on the basis of an experiment that was carried out with an eleven-month-old baby boy called Albert (Watson and Rayner, 1920).
