Suffering from Auroraphobia?
TweetWhat is Auroraphobia?
Auroraphobia- Fear of Northern lights.
Classical conditioning theory would suggest that any repeated pairing of a CS and a traumatic DCS should produce a phobic response to the CS, in which case unusual phobias could be expected to be more common. However, in fact, there is a definite bias and ease of acquiring phobias to certain types of stimuli which argues against simple classical conditioning.
Vicarious conditioning, informational, emotional and cognitive factors have all been shown to be important in both the acquisition and maintenance of phobias. Once again, these are not allowed for in classical conditioning
