Suffering from Atychiphobia?
TweetWhat is Atychiphobia?
Atychiphobia- Fear of failure.
Leading on from these discoveries, it has been suggested that classical conditioning acting upon unconscious pre-attentive mechanisms is responsible for cases of animal phobia and, possibly for social phobia as well.
A complicated series of experiments seemed to demonstrate that people could be conditioned to fear relevant phobic stimuli at an unconscious level. It is suggested that once in place, the fear may be worked upon by conscious, cognitive processes but that these are important for the maintenance of phobia rather than for its initiation.
Once again, although there appears to be a great deal of interesting experimental evidence to support the theory, it is not universally accepted by all experts. The main objection is that thoughts and beliefs dvailable to the conscious mind are felt by many to be critical, not only in the continuance of phobias but in their development as well.
