Suffering from Ataxophobia?

What is Atelophobia?

Atelophobia- Fear of imperfection.

Before describing the therapies themselves, it may be helpful to define two processes (extinction and habituation) that are commonly referred to by behavioural psychologists. These processes may take place as a result of treatment but can also, to a certain extent, occur naturally.

Extinction is a progressive weakening and eventual disappearance of the conditioned, fearful response as a result of non-traumatic exposures or experiences with the feared (phobic) stimulus. Hence a new non-fearful coupling between the stimulus and response is generated which is mediated by learning.

Habituation, in essence, means ' getting used td. In psychology, it refers to the decline in the conditioned, fearful response which occurs with repeated exposure to the feared (phobic) stimulus. Eventually, the fearful, conditioned response may disappear completely. In practical terms and to non-psychologists, there would appear to be very little difference between extinction and habituation.
