Arithmophobia- Fear of numbers.
The performance tasks are set by the therapist, who accompanies, aids and guides the patient and helps him to achieve them. However, as soon as possible, the therapist begins to decrease his level of support (which may mean physical removal and giving instructions from some distance away) so that assistance is minimal and the person learns to believe in his own capabilities.
These are techniques that may be used, generally in conjunction with other therapies, in the treatment of social phobia and agoraphobia. The techniques employed involve instructing the patient in certain procedures such as the exchange of greetings and practising the skills in role play and in real life.
