Michael Phelps ADHD
TweetAn Olympic legend has ADHD?
People in the ADHD have become highly inspired by professional swimmer Michael Phelps. He is a professional who has set numerous world records and has won a number of championships including eight gold medals in the 2008 Olympics. He has had to deal with ADHD since he was diagnosed with the condition when he was nine years old. The main reason as to why Phelps has been able to be successful in the Olympics and in other performances comes from what he does to take care of his ADHD.
Hyper Focusing is the goal
Hyper Focusing is a skill that Phelps works with to make sure that he can concentrate on swimming and therefore being able to successfully compete with other people. This works in that a person will concentrate on something in such an intense manner that it will be next to impossible for a person to break one’s concentration from the task at hand. This is a difficult thing to try out but it can prove to be successful if a person puts one’s mind on the task at hand.
Avoiding distractions is a vital part
Phelps uses Hyper Focusing as a means of making sure that his mind does not wander off to other things. This is a necessity in that by focusing on swimming and swimming alone he will be able to compete with other people and use his skills to be successful in the water.
Consider the consequences
The consequences of acting out improperly are also something that Phelps uses when it comes to considering how his ADHD can impact people. He uses this consideration to think about what he should and should not be doing so he will be able to focus more on being a better person. This focus can make it so it will be easier to concentrate on being the best that one can be in some kind of activity.
Sometimes crying or laughing
are the only options left,
and laughing feels better right now.
