OCD in Kids - Can the Parents of Affected Child do Something?

     

Every parent wants their children to succeed in life with best possible ways. They can just do anything to let it happen. If the child has some illness like anxiety or something, soothing their anxious child is part of daily activities. If you are the parent of a child who has obsessive-compulsive disorder, it is difficult to just soothe the child by words related the illness. It can rather worsen the symptoms. Many a times, parents accept the OCD part of their children and perform the rituals which their kids want as part if their OCD - like checking door locks many times, cleaning and bathing multiple times, etc.

Role of Parents in OCD in children

Everyone in the family is involved with the symptoms of OCD, if a child in the house suffers from it. As a parent, you can influence and lead by example the entire household including extended families. Let the sibling of OCD child know that he/she is trying hard to recover from illness and they are actively looking to get back in shape. Being critical and hostile can create far more troubles for whole family.
