According to the studies published in the journal of Paediatrics, the coping skills of mothers of children with autism confirm that they are more likely to report "poor or fair" emotional and mental health than other moms, but they are also more likely to show remarkable strengths.

AAP, the American Academy of Paediatrics has recommended some parental strategies which the parents can adopt for helping their autistic child to improve overall function.

  1. Adopting some behavioural training and management techniques – training on positive reinforcement and self help improves behavior and communication in autistic kids.
  2. Some specialized therapies such as speech therapy, physical therapy, etc.  can also help autistic children.
  3. Try to overcome as many misconceptions about Autism. You can do this by educating yourself about this illness and help others also in dispelling the misunderstandings.
  4. Autistic children need extra care and attention. The range of function varies too much and there are kids who are leading high performing normal life while few others need supervision and assistance in school and colleges.

Some small tips for Parents of Autistic Child

Try to learn as much you can about autism – whether on your own or through some training or external help. The more you learn about it, the better you can handle the autistic child. You can take well informed decisions which can help both child as well as parents.

Know about each and every aspect of your child behaviour. See that you know what is bad and what is good for him or her. Check for signs of positive response and disruptive behaviour. You can easily troubleshoot your child’s issue if you know them well.

You have to be strong and should have a never give-up approach towards your child. The kid with autism also has full life ahead of them to grow and develop themselves.
