Hope Solo Opens up on her Depression Battle
TweetBorn as Hope Amelia Stevens, the American soccer star Hope Sole was born on July 30, 1981. She is an American soccer goalkeeper and part of two-time Olympic gold medallist team. She has been into playing as a goalkeeper for United States women's national soccer team since the year 2000. After playing at the high school and college level, for Washington University, she started playing football professionally for Philadelphia Charge under Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA).
After the WUSA season was over, she travelled to Europe and played for top division leagues in Sweden and France. Her soccer Career is booming with her playing for Women Professional Soccer (WPC) from the year 2009 to 2011. She played for Saint Louis Athletica, Atlanta Beat and magicJack. After the WPS she played for Seattle Sounders in the W-League. At present, she is associated with Seattle Reign FC in the National Women's Soccer League which is the top notch women's soccer league in United States currently.
Hope Solo is the top female goalkeeper in the world today and she currently holds the U.S. record for most career clean sheets. She has been constantly applauded for her exception goalkeeping skills at many international platforms. She was phenomenal in winning the 2 back to back summer Olympic gold medals for USA in women soccer. Solo has received the Golden Glove award for best goalkeeper and she also got the Bronze Ball award for her complete performance at the tournament. Such an amazing feat for her.
Solo's bouts with Controversies and Depression
On June 21, 2014, Solo was arrested and charged with two domestic assaults counts of fourth degree. One of them was against her half-sister and the other against her nephew. She was booked under her post marriage name Hope Amelia Stevens. She was released by the court the next day after she pleaded not guilty. The trials began in August but could not happen till January 2015. The judge delayed the decision and ordered more depositions from the defendants.
There were lot of controversies since she was allowed by the Football league to play the games although she was arrested and had charged against her in the sourt. She was allowed to continue playing soccer till the end of the 2014 season. Media made the reports on the example of double standard in professional American sports. Solo was allowed to play on World Cup roster although she was arrested and presented a letter to the authorities of American Football association for not handling the charges of domestic violence appropriately.
On January 13, 2015, the judge rejected the charges against Solo due to lack of cooperation from both the victims.
Solo has been active in Women's Sports Foundation, where she participates in events and fund raising charity events for advancing the lives of girls and women through sports and physical activity.
