Duncan Bell's Rugby Bout with Depression
TweetDuncan Stuart Crampton Bell, popularly known as Duncan Bell was born on 1 October 1974 in King's Lynn, Norfolk. He is a popular English rugby union player. He was raised at South Gloucestershire village of Hawkesbury Upto where he attended Colston's Collegiate School.
Rugby Career highlights of Duncan Bell
Bell used to play rugby for Bath and he later played for Bristol in under Seventeen. He was called to represent England squad in the year 1998. He was named as part of the bench against Australia, but he didn't went to the field.
In the year 2005, Bell started to play for England A in their match against Frach A team. After that he debuted in the all senior team in the six nation tournament in 2005. Hence he debuted with a match against Italy. Bell was later selected for the 2009 Autumn Internationals where he players all the 3 games against Australia, Argentina and New Zealand. He won five England caps as a prop, his first one came in the year 2005. He has appeared and played in more than 200 games for Bath.
Duncan's fight with Depression
Bath team has said that they didn't knew about the illness of Duncan and whether he suffered from depression was not known to the team. All across the nine years of Duncan at the club, no one was aware of his illness. He was silently suffering at the helm of his own anxiety and mental health. Bell made his sufferings public when he announced his retirement from the game at the age of 37.
Bell suffered from this illness ever since the breakdown of his marriage about seven years ago. He was very successful in hiding the illness even from his front row colleague, David Flatman, although he broke down in 2006 tour of Australia. He said now he will develop and nurture his company called Bell Financial Services. Duncan Bell is very popular in England and he is well known for his strength and courage. After his revelation, it feels like he was very good at hiding his inner daemons and made him look tough outside.
How Duncan is now approaching life after Depression
After the death of his wife, he is taking good care and treatment for his depression. He is making a good spiritual shape for himself, although he has no religious inclinations. The thing which worked for him is the fact that he kept the focus away from himself and started helping others in which he get complete satisfaction from life. This is in addition to the professional work he do for his company.
Sometimes crying or laughing
