Non-epileptic seizures are incidents which changes person's behavior for a short time. The person having non-epileptic seizures may be having inner sensations. Electrical disruptions in the brain are not responsible for Non-epileptic seizures. Non-epileptic seizures can suddenly alter person's behavior. It is simply known as NES.
What are the types of Non-epileptic seizures?
Non-epileptic seizures are categorized into two types;
- Physiologic non-epileptic seizures - It is common type of epileptic seizures. Physiologic non-epileptic seizure may be caused by a number of conditions that can generate seizures.
- Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures - Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures are an uncomfortable issue which is tricky for patients as well as healthcare professionals to treat this type of non-epileptic seizures.
Causes for Non-epileptic seizures
There are a lot of physiological and psychological reasons of non-epileptic seizures which is relating to body and mind. Some common causes of non-epileptic seizures are as follows;
- Non-epileptic seizures can also occurred due to any horror attacks.
- Problem in heart can also main reason of non-epileptic seizures.

- Gentle paroxysmal positional dizziness
- Hypoglycemia and associated neuroglycopenia
- Migraine
- Narcolepsy
- Non-epileptic myoclonus
- Parasomnias including night fear
- Paroxysmal kinesiogenic dyskinesia
- Repetitive behaviors
- Spasm
Diagnosis of Non-epileptic seizures
Generally, diagnosis of Non-epileptic seizures is done by a psychologist or psychiatrist. Personal medical history of patients is very necessary for non-epileptic seizures. Diagnosis of physical non-epileptic seizures are very easier than diagnosis of psychogenic non-epileptic seizures. Different tests are available for diagnosis of non-epileptic seizures;
- Blood tests is common type of test which as well determine the non-epileptic seizures.
- Electroencephalogram that is EEG test is also used in diagnosis of non-epileptic seizures.
- Non-epileptic seizures is also tested by Video telemetry technique.
- Doctors can also done diagnosis of non-epileptic seizures by different modern techniques like CT scan and MRI scan.
Treatment for Non-epileptic seizures
Proper and correct treatments of non-epileptic seizures are mainly depend upon the various causes or reasons of non-epileptic seizures. Neurologist, specialist, nurse and psychiatrist or psychologist are play an important role in deciding right treatment for non-epileptic seizures. There are some methods of treatment of non-epileptic seizures which can make well non-epileptic seizures;
- Encouraging professional psychotherapy can be provided good treatment for non-epileptic seizures by relieving stress and trauma.
- Regular relaxation exercise and some biofeedback are very essential for treatment of non-epileptic seizures.
