I have seen the toll that anxiety, depression and chronic pain can take on a persons life. In addition, stress not only magnifies medical conditions, it can erode relationships and change them from a source of strength, support and joy to a burden you have to carry.
I am certified in biofeedback and neurofeedback. I have extensive experience with chronic pain, trauma and comorbid medical conditions that have become complicated by psychological issues. As a certified practioner, I have helped many people cope with recent or childhood trauma, PTSD and chronic stress conditions.
Do you have a child who is defiant, acts impulsively, or struggles to show self-control? Is anxious, withdrawn, or depressed? Struggling socially or in school? Having difficulty adjusting to a stressful life experience? I primarily work with young children (2-10 years old) who are experiencing behavioral, emotional, psychological, and/or relational problems that are interfering with their functioning at home, school, and/or other settings. I believe strongly in the role that parents/caregivers and families have in the lives of their children and like to involve them as much as possible as I work with children.
As a Registered Play Therapist, I have received additional training, experience, and supervision in counseling children. Play therapy provides a developmentally-appropriate approach for counseling children. Kids often struggle to express themselves verbally and may not respond well to traditional counseling methods that are often geared to adults.
I believe that everyone goes through tough periods in life where they sometimes need a trained professional to help them get back on track. I see it as a step of empowerment rather than failure to acknowledge there are issues that need to be addressed in one’s life.
My goal in my practice is to provide a safe, supportive place where clients can explore issues they are facing. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a B.A. from Samford University, Masters and Doctorate degrees from the University of Alabama. I completed my internship at the Birmingham VA/UAB Department of Psychiatric Medicine. My graduate school training focused on chronic pain, cardiac rehabilitation, developing/implementing health education campaigns and weight loss. I also specialize in depression, anxiety, life transitions, infertility, working with adolescents and parents on communication/building bonds, life/work balance, managing chronic illness, and couples therapy.

A good therapy session will be one where you feel heard, valued, challenged, and empowered. Nights and weekends available.
I’ve had the unique opportunity to wear a lot of hats in my life, including mother, police officer, and psychology professor. These have given me a soft spot in my heart and unique expertise to work with law enforcement, first responders, parents of infants, empty nesters, and college students.
