Art therapist
Psychologist, PsyD
My approach is guided by the belief that people face difficulties in life in part because of painful early experiences that give rise to feelings that often remain out of awareness. As a result, these individuals can become depressed and anxious. Often, they find themselves repeatedly engaging in self-defeating patterns and becoming involved in relationships that are ultimately unsatisfying.

I believe that through thoughtful exploration and collaborative insight, my clients can become more fully aware of the experiences and feelings that contribute to their difficulties. I believe that this awareness can help my clients find relief from their symptoms and experience a stronger sense of self in the world.
When working with children and adolescents, I encourage children to communicate their feelings through imaginative play and therapeutic games. For my adolescent clients, I provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for them to be able able to talk about difficult feelings and experiences and come up with effective coping skills.

Finding a good psychologist can be a challenge. While many practitioners may be geographically convenient, you are most likely to benefit from a therapeutic relationship in which there is a good fit between client and therapist and in which the therapist brings knowledge and experience. I have been practicing since 1991 and believe in the ability of each of us to make significant and lasting changes in our lives. I think you will find that I listen well to your needs and bring a complement of skills to address a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, chronic weight problems, parenting concerns, and procrastination.

I understand that initiating a counseling experience is a big step. You are welcome to call me to discuss your concerns and to decide if I will be a good fit for you. If I cannot help you, I will be happy to assist you in finding someone who will.

Marriage and Family Therapist
LMFT, CACIII
With almost twenty years experience in El Paso and Teller counties working with individuals, families and groups, I believe that difficulties often bring us to a place of change. Change comes with an assortment of feelings: relief, fear, sometimes both. My personal background is rich in diversity and experience. With unconditional acceptance and compassion for my clients, I am known for my work with a variety of people. We identify the problem and then focus on solutions together. I am a licensed family therapist with level III certification in addictions counseling and experience working with individuals and groups as well.

We are impacted by our family histories and, as we understand this, we can make new choices. I’ll help you look at addictive behavior patterns, family systems, abuse history, foster family experiences, grief/loss/healing, and personal growth challenges. I also do group therapy work with adolescents, adults and seniors.

Feel free to call with questions and discuss what you are looking for in therapy. Together we can de-escalate a crisis, develop goals or process an experience. If you are interested in my approach to addictions, I believe in the 12-Step model. Nevertheless I do respect alternative recovery paths.

Welcome to my Psychotherapy practice. This is where growth and personal healing can really happen. Depression, anxiety, women’s issues, family issues, trauma, and abuse issues are all areas where I have special training and experience. The complex issues of the LGBTQ Community are also a specialty. I know it is not easy to make that first contact, but give me a call at 707-809-5958 and let’s take that first step.

I have been trained in long and short term models of therapy. Cognitive Behavioral, Humanistic, Jungian, Psychodynamic, and Family Systems are the methods mostly used in my practice.
Extra training and experience with LGBTQ issues; short or long term individual therapy, couples work, and blended family methods, offer a very well rounded approach. We can focus on solving specific problems or explore the deeper psyche. It’s all connected.

Couples and individuals I see for therapy need a safe place to be real, feel understood, and gain some tools for living and loving without being judged. I have felt honored to have been a witness and trusted helper to so many men and women on their journeys to accept themselves and have richer intimate connections. I have worked in behavioral health for over 25 years, and have comfort with many issues, and vary my approach to fit the client’s needs. I work frequently with individuals/couples with sexual concerns, loss of relationship and coping with effects of cancer.

As an AASECT certified sex therapist since 2005, I enjoy helping adults re-ignite excitement and be more comfortable sexually. Michael Cranston, LCMFT, CST, and I work with some couples as a husband and wife coaching team to take on relationship dynamics, communication problems and intimacy concerns.

How will you know when your life has improved? What will be the signs? How will you be different? Can you envision that difference? With over 25 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I will use these questions to begin the process of helping you to find new possibilities for fulfillment and relief from emotional pain. I have extensive experience helping adults and adolescents with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and panic disorders, addictions, interpersonal relationship problems, and life transitions. After identifying therapy goals, we’ll outline a plan to help you work through your barriers to change.

Therapy will move at your pace. We’ll use proven Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to break the connection between harmful thoughts and negative emotions. As you begin to learn new coping skills you’ll become more confident taking on the challenge of change.

As therapy progresses, we’ll look deeper to understand how presenting problems are sometimes a cover for other hidden problems often originating in childhood. Over the course of therapy we’ll revisit your therapy goals and evaluate your progress. I look forward to the possibility of working with you.

There are times when life can become overwhelming and it is in these times when it can be helpful to have support and guidance. My role as a therapist is to help you focus on what areas in your life you want to improve and then to assist you in doing so. I can offer practical ways to make changes while helping you look at situations from a different perspective. I believe that therapy is meant to be short term; a place for you to focus on yourself, make life changes and then move forward on your own.

I work with clients of all ages through individual work and family sessions when appropriate. I also offer couples counseling for marital/ relationship issues.
